Celebrating Failure

The most "memorable" time i failed something was my freshman year, when i failed Programming 1. The reason I failed the class because i underestimated the class' intensity, and I thought I would enjoy the class. However, I quickly learned that coding is not my forte, and the class pushed me into a sort of existential crisis of what I wanted to do with my life.

From failing programming 1, I learned I did not have a passion for sitting hours on end trying to figure out code for a project. I enjoy talking to people more, and interacting with humans.

I always take risks, and since entering college, I have taken many risks. I hope to keep learning and growing from failure, so I can shape who i am. Of course, i hope i can keep meeting my goals, and excel in the future as well.

  1. Hey Chloe! I honestly laughed while reading this because I feel like all freshman students have that moment when we take a class and realize “this is TOTALLY not for me, what am I doing here?” To be honest, I probably would have experienced the same thing in Programming 1. Although I think it is really interesting and admire the people who can do it, I know that it is not for me, and that’s okay. I think in failing—in some cases, not all—we are redirected to the things we really love, just like you were.

  2. Hello Chloe,
I understand where you're coming from. I, too failed courses during my freshman year and that failure lead to a whole new path. At first, I was hesitant and tried to retake the failed course but then I learned it just wasn't for me. I am glad to have gone through failure due to the result it has led up to. I am finally enrolled in a major that I admire and seem to be passionate of.

  3. Hey Chloe,
Great job on this weeks question. I totally agree and understand where you are coming from. The classes I failed or did bad in, taught me lessons and made me realize that everything was not going to be a breeze. It takes time and effort to pass these classes and without it, you wont succeed. Overall, great answer to this weeks question!
