For the third reading reflection, I read Grinding it Out, The Making of Mcdonald's by Ray Kroc
1. What surprised me the most about Richard McDonald was his tenacity. I admired his drive to create a way people can enjoy fast food. I least admired how McDonalds has become an empire of a company. The entrepreneur encountered some failures, that is why Ray Kroc came in to modernize the McDonald's business.
2. Some competencies i noticed the McDonalds' exhibited was creativity, and the drive to make other people's lives better.
3) I was confused on how the family came up with the idea.
4)
-What would you have done differently?
-Are you content with the outcome?
5) I believe the McDonald's definition of hard work is trial and error.

Hey Chloe! McDonald’s was a really interesting option from the list and I am happy someone chose it so I could learn more about Richard McDonald as well. I’d like to know more on what you mean in saying you were confused “on how the family came up with the idea.” What I would like to know is how many years and conversations took place to take McDonald’s from one store to literally a worldwide fast food empire; definitely a feat!
ReplyDeleteHello Chloe,
ReplyDeleteI like the reading you chose to reflect upon. Mcdonald's has certainly come a long way and it is no surprise that Richard Mcdonald has a drive that got him to where he needed to be. It is a good thing Ray Kroc was able to step in to enhance the business. Had Ray Kroc not been involved, I wonder where the business would be today. Would it have become a well known franchise that reached both ends of the world? It could be that Richard's drive alone could have yielded the same success.
McDonalds is one of the most recognized brands in the world. I don’t think of it as something to be proud of, because the secret of it is the system of preparing it. Specializing a teen to flip a burger is not an achievement. Paying him min wage is demeaning and you are not giving him a chance to grow. Unfortunately, I do not see McDonalds as an American Pride company.
ReplyDeleteHey Chloe. I liked how you connected this assignment with a previous assignment that told us to talk about tenacity. It is an interesting biography to do this assignment on being that he is such a controversial figure. He isn't someone I appreciate by any stretch of the imagination, but it must have been interesting learning about the ins and outs on his past.
